We have been the first choice for drum lessons in Caroline Springs and surrounding suburbs for over 15 years. APAC business insider awards have voted us; Melbourne's best music school in 2016 and we only plan to get better!

Our program has been developed over the last quarter of a century by ANZCA examiner and former tertiary educator (VCA, Melbourne Uni and NMIT) Brendan Hains. F.dip.A.  All of our drum students progress is closely monitored by Brendan and our Administration, feel free to speak to us at any time on any matter.

Our teachers are drawn from the finest available in Melbourne, all teachers are highly qualified and have working with children checks. We do not accept 2 year diplomas as adequate teaching qualifications and neither should you. All of our teachers have extensive professional performing experience, they will not however cancel teaching in favour of gigs, our teachers are committed to your music education before any other consideration, they perform in their own time not yours!

The main focus of our drum program is fostering correct technique – achieved through thorough memorization of all rudiments and exercises. Students are encouraged to learn songs of their own choice along with some guidance and recommendations from our teachers of all the drum classics.

Students are also encouraged to learn repertoire from the superb ANZCA drum exam syllabus. We have uploaded a number of the ANZCA drum exam pieces (performed by the author/examiner -Mark Murphy)to our Youtube site, you can access them from this website.

We teach all styles of drums from Rock, Pop, Jazz, Heavy Metal and many more.

In addition to drums we teach a range of percussion instruments including: Congas, Bongos, Djembe, Darbuka, Cajon, Glockenspiel, Xylophone, Marimba and Vibraphone.

We ensure that all students learn to read music notation, we have noticed drum students from other schools are often notoriously bad readers, fear not we can easily rectify the failings of your former teachers “pedagogy”.

Aural (ear) training exercises are conducted for a minute or two every lesson. General knowledge and appreciation of drum history including the finest exponents of the instrument are taught regularly.

We accept drum students from the age of 3 years (on assessment) We also have a large number of mature age guitar students. It’s never too late to learn!

At Caroline Springs School of Music we have many drum students with autism. We have had great success teaching kids with ASD, all of our teachers are trained in how best to teach music to these students. We have found drum lessons in particular to be of great benefit to kids with ASD and positively impacts them in the rest of their lives, particularly in behaviour, communication and cognitive skills.

If you wish to purchase a drum kit from our store we have a range of acoustic and electric kits. Students are all entitled to a store discount.

We offer lessons on acoustic and electric drum-kits, all of high quality and regular upkeep.

We strongly urge all of our drum students to bring a music manuscript book and or diary to all lessons. We recommend the Mark Murphy ANZCA drum text books to all students. Other worthwhile books include Rhythm Section Drumming by Frank Corniola,  When In Doubt, Roll by Bill Bruford and Syncopation for the Modern Drummer by Ted Reed

If you choose to take drum lessons at Caroline Springs School of Music you will not look back, make no mistake, we are the best in the business.
